New Work for Rainy Days

Thursday, August 5, 2010

After much prompting from himself I have returned to the blog for a quick update.

Would you believe, I grew this beautiful lemon all by myself? My poor lemon tree took its sweet time cultivating its very first child, spending literally months getting it ready for us to eat.

I've been experimenting and playing around with a new design concept - using stamps. Yes, postage stamps! Then overlaying them with stencils. I tried it out for my dad's birthday card, creating a pocket watch stencil for it. The stencils on top of the stamps almost resemble the post office stamps you get on the corner of your envelope.

I then developed the idea a little further for the Rainy Days Exhibition held at Cube Art & Design in July.

I entered two little pieces on the canvas blocks provided. To my surprise both of them sold! I hope they've gone to a loving and creative home and get hung somewhere special.

Ooh, it's been a little quiet on the blog and crafting front, with work taking some hectic priority.
But here are some little snippets for you...

Look! I finally ordered and received the new labels for my bags and textile goodies.
I've even had previous customers who are currently 'tagless' requesting that they have a tag sewn in pronto pronto.
These tags are currently sitting politely next my mismatched piles of cut out material and backing fabric...ready to be sewn into brand new bag creations for you.

Last weekend the Urban Uprising guys gave me tickets to Art Melbourne.
So much art and so much inspiration! The count down is now on to get my new studio all set up and homely, to give the creative juices somewhere to thrive.
While I was in Melbourne I took a few snaps of some street art - just another of my fascinations.

Isn't this just the most amazing use of colour pencils?

You can see
more of Maria Cristina Bellucci's work here.

Finally, after more than a year of deliberating, I've commenced my blog. I'm hoping this can be a place of exploration, sharing, and creativity. A place where I can upload all my crafty experiments, develop my bag making style, and build my clientele.

Recently I have been trying out leather, which is a new textile for me. Working with it wasn't quite as simple as I thought it would be.

For Valentines Day I made himself a leather notebook cover. I got all the right bits and bobs for the sewing machine, the right thread, and all the right measurements. Seemed simple enough...till I started sewing away happily at my carefully cut out pieces, and the leather stretched. Who would've thunk it aye? Everything went squee sideways and I had a hell of a time trying to squash the notebook into the cover! At least it was made with love right?

It might be safer for now, sticking to using leather in my card making.
